Just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate is Mount Tamalpais State Park, 6,300 acres of redwood groves and oak woodlands with a spectacular view from the 2,571-foot east peak. Combined with other spaces in Marin - including the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Marin County Open Spaces, Marin Municipal Water District, and some privately held lands - Mt. Tamalpais itself is said to cover nearly 25,000 acres. On a clear day one can even see the Farallon Islands some 25 miles out to sea, and occasionally it is possible to look inland, across the Central Valley to the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, almost 200 miles away!
Mt. Tamalpais (Tamal-pie-us) State Park, located in the heart of Marin County, offers a wealth of activities, including hiking, biking, camping, and much more! In addition, Mt. Tamalpais State Park also offers guided hiking programs, astronomy lectures and stargazing sessions, and even public storytelling events - all free and open to the public. |

Candidates needed for Board of Directors
The Mt. Tamalpais Interpretive Association (MTIA), a non-profit cooperating association for Mt. Tamalpais State Park of over 200 members, seeks candidate resumes for the Board of Directors. As an organization, MTIA is responsible for the volunteer hiking and interpretive programs at Mt. Tamalpais State Park, the staffing of the Park's visitor center, a volunteer Astronomy and lecture program, as well as park and trail conservation and maintenace, and financial support for the park and park staff.
This is an exciting time to become a part of MTIA and help serve on the Board of Directors as we are about to begin construction a historical barn on the mountain for the history of the gravity car and Tam railroad, the apex of a capital fundraising campaign that has been several years in the making. We are also at a stage in our development as an organization where we are contemplating a name change in order to be more marketable to both the public and grant foundations, and are beginning to explore ways we can grow membership and park support through partnerships with other non-profit and public organizations.
If you are interested in becoming a candidate to serve on the board of directors for our organization, please send us your resume. Skills and past experiences in law, finance, business management, business consulting, non-profit management, land management, and construction are big plus.
